1978.

At The Morning News, Andrew Womack lists the top ten albums from his collection for every year as far back as he can remember, starting with 1978.

I am totally going to steal this idea, though it might be more interesting without hindsight. If so, and if I went as far back as 1978, my first few years would be a sparse name-check of Star Wars read-along records and various breakdance albums my mom bought for us at yard sales. And once I got to 1980, there'd be no escaping this record, which must have had the most terrific nails-on-a-chalkboard effect for my parents.
