Lovers and Haters
Monday, November 19, 2007 at 01:27PM "What are all these people standing in line for?"
"They must be going out of business."
"Yeah, I'm at Muji! [...] It's this new Japanese store? It's like Ikea... [...] Yeah, it's nuts. [...] Nah, just some socks and scarves and crap."
"This is amazing. Look at how cheap this stuff is! I mean, look at this bag... there's no way that should only cost $40."
"I don't get it."
"You're kind of pissed off, aren't you?"
"Yeah! I mean, what's the big deal? This votive candle, it's $3.50!"
"I know, it's cheap, right?"
"No! That's like, really expensive for a votive."
"I think the big deal is the design, the minimalist packaging..."
"Yeah, whatever. I'm pissed."
"I love how the music they're playing is so soothing."
"Smell this - isn't that divine?"
"Did we pass those blankets yet? I don't think we passed those blankets."
"It's smaller than I thought. Is there a downstairs or something?"
"Oh, there it is! Middle row."
"Yeah, but I'm not going to get it. The Times reviewed potato mashers, and it didn't do so well."
(For the record, I'm a lover, even though they didn't carry my linen room shoes or my brushed wool hippo. None of it matters when you have some of the best fabrics and the nicest sales staff in all of New York.)
