Have Have Have Some Salad
Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 08:15AM I failed to mention that Dubravka Ugresic and Bragi Olafsson were reading last night at McNally Jackson. Both have new books released by Open Letter Books, and it was just a really cool thing to see these two underrated foreign authors read together in person (though Dubravka might object to me ascribing to her a "foreign" identity, according to one of the essays in her book). I'm pleased, then, to report that Bragi will be making an encore performance at Book Culture tonight at 7 in conversation with Mark Binelli.
I'm partway through The Pets, which is more or less about a man who finds himself trapped under a bed, and I can tell you that it's a fun read. Plus, he used to be the bassist of The Sugarcubes, and that in itself made me go all giggly when I shook his hand.
(See? Book events! Translation! I haven't lost the plot entirely.)
