  • kottke.org is ten years old today
My online presence in 1998: a barebones website of photos like these and self-conscious text ("this page is a mess... but soon it will be the home of all things i know about latvia...") and far too many hours spent logged onto IRC (/ping huphtur). Meanwhile, Jason Kottke was launching a career. And so the blog approaches adolescence, finally making LOLcats and memes age appropriate. The internet, blog's older brother, is already driving a car, going steady, and applying for colleges.

  • Reading cures
I've hit a reading slump over the last few days, opting instead to stare blankly out the bus window on my commute. Like this article says, sometimes too many books is just as bad as too few. My cure? I'm finding that Stephen Fry does wonders for keeping me from looking "like a humpbacked gnome somewhat the worse for liquor."

  • Archie in... A Different Class!
I've spent days, nay, WEEKS I TELL YOU of my life dancing to Pulp. In college dorm rooms, at TisWas (in its Coney Island High days), in the streets of Camden on New Year's Eve approaching midnight — you name it. The Husband and I have even been known to take turns lip-syncing to "Babies" while alone in the apartment. But I still don't think we're ready to rumble with Archie and Veronica on this one. (via Dooce)

  • Ruth the Acrobat
If you can get past the puerile notes and tags, a more fitting poster to welcome in the weekend I have never seen.

  • Ghosts of American Astronauts - Mekons
All good weekends need a theme tune as well. (via The Husband)
