Boar Blasting
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 05:59PM My mind is elsewhere today. You can thank the ever-fascinating mind of an old friend.
Turning up at the Vecāķi seaside nature park, where filming is taking place, one is overcome by a surreal feeling -- there's a giant, green square mounted on the edge of the pine forest, serving as a backdrop for a shrieking girl who, tied to a cable, hovers in the air... Prāta Vētra is there too, dressed in clothes from another era, someone else shows up with a substantial beard -- and a half-naked crown. The instigator is the commercial's director, Aivars Čivželis a.k.a. Čižiks, who, as it turns out, is quite secretive. As soon as Renārs Kaupers begins to talk about boar blasting, the main event in one of the two commercials, Čižiks simply drags him away by the elbow. Kaspars Roga, though, confirms that each clip has its own theme -- one, the aforementioned boar, the other -- flying girls. But both clips contain a central theme -- to show how true Mitavnieki* would relax, and, of course, how beer was the main ingredient in this relaxation (yes, one of the characteristic traits of the Mitavnieki is their outstanding boastfulness, admits Māris Mihelsons).*Mitavnieki = people from Jelgava; Mītava is the name of the beer the commercial is advertising, with the tagline "Men have to relax!"
