  • Survival Creativity: Return to Pencil and Paper
If your tools chose you, they can also choose to leave you if you can’t afford them. But everyone has access to pencil and paper. Everyone can archive their thoughts in the most basic form available. Joanne McNeil is quickly becoming my favorite online read. It sometimes seems that she's clairvoyant and tapping into the things I think about, cleaning them up, ridding them of insecurities, and writing them out intelligently and eloquently.

  • look for songs with harpsichords in them
I just plugged "Golden Brown" into Pandora, and it's spitting out a load of harpsichord songs: Beck's "We Live Again," and The Kinks' "Two Sisters" and "Rosie Won't You Please Come Home," The Clique's "Sugar on Sunday." I love the harpsichord. My grandparents had one in their house built by my grandfather himself; I used to play it after school while visiting them and eating all their Archway oatmeal cookies. Plus, I love that "Golden Brown" was once used to advertise Ore-Ida potatoes. Because french fries are JUST like heroin. (via sarahb)

  • "I shall be greatly humiliated if you do like it..."
A letter from Henry James to his brother, William, at the fabulous new online book magazine, The Second Pass. I have never been able to read Henry James because of his excessive use of the comma. Even in letters, apparently. Comma closing parenthesis. Comma closing parenthesis!

  • No Milk Today
The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn.
